One of the great things about following so many blogs is the giveaways! I follow about a million blogs, and on any given day at least one or two are having a giveaway. Sometimes it is for a book or a gift certificate. Sometimes it is something I totally want, other times, not so much. But I always enter, because who doesn't like free stuff. And apparently it has paid off...again. I won!
Of the many blogs I follow, The Diaper Diaries is one of my favorites. It is written by a mommy and loaded with funny stories, product reviews, and occasionally giveaways. Like I said, I always enter. This particular giveaway was for a aden & anais sleep sack. Before you get all excited, I am not expecting. But I plan on having at least one more baby, so I figured why not? I can start a little collection or whatever for all my baby needs. I chose this adorable little fishy sleeping sack. Isn't it the cutest?
I love entering giveaways because most of the time it doesn't take much more than entering a comment. Like a minute tops! And you can win all kinds of cool stuff! Yay for me!

Blah....
It's a cold and dreary day. Except, it isn't really that cold. It is like 50 or something, which is actually about the perfect temp. And it isn't really that dreary either. That must be my mood.
It should be a good day. Chickie slept in. I met a friend for some play time for the kids and gossip time for us. We then met another friend for lunch. The kids meal I thought was $4.99 turned out to be only $.99. Really, things are pretty good.
But Chickie has been crabby today, despite enough sleep. I found out someone we were in contact with over the weekend has the dreaded H1N1. And the news on the radio...it is enough to make anyone cry. I mean seriously! Is there ever any good news anymore? As if times weren't tough already, economically speaking, apparently petty crimes are at an all time high. Awesome. Add that to the list of things to worry about. I might get mugged in my driveway or my car may get broken into at the grocery store.
My house if full of leaves. Leaves that are brought in stuck to my husband's shoes, because my front yard is full of leaves. Lest you think we are too lazy to rake, our tree is just starting to shed it's leaves. It is a Silver Maple, which is possibly the ugliest, dirtiest tree in the world. Oh sure, I love having a mature tree. And I will take the ugliest, dirtiest one over none, but still...it sheds helicopters all spring, so I am constantly picking little maple trees out of my garden. Every time the wind blows it showers our yard with little sticks. And in the fall - the time of year when trees really show their beauty - my tree holds onto it's leaves until the very end of October . They don't turn fiery red or brilliant orange. Nope, they sorta turn yellow and brown and fall. But as far as amazing fall colors go, they got nothing! And they retain their leaves well past the point when it is comfortable to be out raking. We will likely see a decent snow before it has shed all its leaves. Which means I will be mopping up salty, slushy puddles from my entrance way as well as picking up wayward leaves from my carpet.

Not Me Monday!
Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.
Ahh...Monday again. A lovely, rainy, sleepy day. A day that started at 5:30 am thanks to one little child who could care less about sleep and mommy's sanity. Alrighty then....here we go!
I did NOT take a nap EVERY.SINGLE.DAY last week. Nope, not me. I use my time efficiently while the Chickie recharges her batteries. I scrub the potty, fold laundry and mop the floor. I certainly do not fall into my bed 3.2 seconds after putting her in her crib.
And speaking of napping, I did not totally fly off the handle at my husband yesterday when he was unable to keep my darling little one quiet so I could nap. I never lose my cool and am not at all possessive of my sleep!
Also speaking of sleeping, I do not lay in bed every night staring at the ceiling wondering why I can't sleep after napping all afternoon. Nope, not me. I know that if I sleep the afternoon away it may create a vicious cycle of not being able to fall asleep at night, resenting getting woken up by a cheerful voice calling "Mommy, play," leading to too much coffee and then crashing and sleeping all stinkin' afternoon because I couldn't sleep the night before.
I have not, in the past couple months, evidently fed my child too many cookies that now she asks for cookies 24/7, even while eating a cookie. Nope, my child eats nothing but nutritious snacks like fruit and yogurt (truth be told, she would probably choose the yogurt over a cookie!)
I did not arrange a girls coffee night and then indicate the wrong Starbucks, leading to a wasted evening for my friends because we ended up a different locations. Nope, not me. I definitely know north from south.
And finally, I did not forget the 20 other "Not Me" things I was planning to post. Because my memory is awesome!
What about you? What have you NOT done lately?

Not Me Monday!
Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.
I had so much fun doing this last week, I decided to do it again. I'm just gonna jump right in:
It wasn't me who, while playing outside with Chickie on a blustery fall day discovered snot running down my darling daughter's face and then realizing that I didn't have a tissue decided to use my shirt to wipe her nose. Nope, not me. I would never do something so disgusting as use my clothing as a tissue. Additionally, I would never go anywhere unprepared for the inevitable runny nose that said daughter had had for a week at that point.
It certainly wasn't me that let my daughter's uneaten breakfast sit on the table until dinner time. I am way too mature to get into a battle of wills with the one who fed her breakfast and should therefore, in my opinion, have cleaned it up.
I most definitely did not let my child continue to play contently by herself even though I knew she was overdue (tho not overripe!) for a diaper change. Nope, not me. I always change Chickie's adorable cloth diapered bum every two hours!
And finally, I would never just sit there and watch my daughter flip a bowl of applesauce on her head while jotting down notes for this post. I would never watch her do it and shrug my shoulders, saying to myself "eh, it's bath night." Nope, not me!
So what have you not done this week?

Untitled
It is Saturday night. Hubby is out with "the boys" and Chickie is in bed. I am doing laundry and blogging. I also have six different games of Scrabble going on on my iPhone. (Side note: Words with Friends = best iPhone app ever!) I wonder why my husband calls me an old lady sometimes - hmmm, gonna have to think about that one. But I digress. Just thought I would update a little. You know, because that is why I started this blog in the first place...to update those who care on our happenings. Hence the name, but I digress, yet again.
Chickie seems to be 99% better. She still has a little cough and a bit of a runny nose, but I am preparing myself for the likelihood that they will be constant for the next 5 months. Or at least the runny nose will be constant. She is pretty much back to her old self. We have had some sleeping issues that I am working to get back on track. Naps are getting a little longer, but bedtime is still a fight. Yesterday we went out to lunch. Lily dozed off in the car on the way to Egg Harbor (love Egg Harbor!!). She remained asleep as I got her out of her car seat, carried her into the restaurant, sat down at the table. In fact, she slept through the entire lunch. Luckily the host had sat us at a booth so I was able to lay her down on the bench and enjoy my lunch. She is talking more and more each day and she even puts together short sentences, as in "Momma more cookie peas?!" Or "Momma cowor (color) peas?" Chickie has also graduated out of her high chair and now sits on a booster at the table with us.

And speaking of graduating, sort of, doesn't my almost 19 month old look like she is off to her first day of school?

Hubs was off work all last week. While our original intentions were to do all sorts of fun things, bad weather, Chickie still recuperating, and the bathroom remodel that taking longer than anticipated kept us mostly home, chilling. The bathroom was actually started last Sunday, and thank goodness it was! I am starting to thing that we are cursed when it comes to home improvement projects. Either that or it is just the nature of home improvement projects to take way longer than anticipated, have many things go wrong, and require numerous trips to not just one, but three home improvement stores. I would gladly not step foot into Home Depot, Lowes, or Menards ever again. Or at least not for a while. The bathroom is almost done. I would post pictures, but we are still without a floor (one of the things that went wrong!) and the bare concrete just doesn't give the room the look I was going for. And since we have no floor, we have no baseboards either. And the new towels are still in the dryer, so...But soon, I promise soon I will have pictures of my awesome new bathroom.
And I really have to give my love some props (BTW, Monday was our 6 year anniversary. We didn't do anything fun or get each other presents but will have a new bathroom to show for it!) Anyway, back to the props. He is one hard working, even keel, level headed handyman! When something went wrong, he just rolled with the punches, figured it out, ran to whichever store, came up with plan B, or adapted to the situation. So not me! I would have cried, cursed, punched, spit and generally did all manner of unproductive and likely counterproductive things. Maybe that is why we are a good pair. Could you imagine if we were both like me?!?!?
In addition to many long days spent working on the bathroom, Matt was also good enough to let me sleep in (on his vacation!) a couple days. Oh the joy! the restful slumber! the hair-dos I woke up to!
Case in point:

He gets an A for effort!
It was so nice having Matt home, even though my house was a disaster, Lily had limited play area due to everything from the bathroom plus the new things going into the bathroom being all over the house, and any semblance of a routine we had going right out the window. It will be hard with him going back to work on Monday, but it is time to get back to normal, whatever that is. It has been a rough past two weeks with Lily being sick and the house in shambles, so I am craving going to the gym, cooking dinner, doing laundry, cleaning the house, and all the other normal things I usually gripe about doing!
Toodles!

Not Me Monday
Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.
I have been reading this fabulous blog for some time now. Thanks Kelly! I am totally hooked! (BTW - I am not thanking myself, believe it or not I have a friend named Kelly, actually a couple that share my name!) Anyway, I have been reading My Charming Kids for quite some time. This chica cracks me up. Seriously, I am practically peeing my pants reading some of her posts, particularly her Not Me Monday posts. Which got me thinking...I do questionable things on a daily basis that most other mommies would totally get, if not at least appreciate the humor of. So I decided to give it a go. I am not promising that this will be a regular feature, but I am going to try to make it because at the very least it will get me blogging with a little more regularity!
So, without further ado (someone check my spelling on that!), I give you my first installment of Not Me Monday!
I have never driven home, all gross and sweaty, from a killer cardio kickboxing class and decided to swing through Starbucks for a venti pumpkin spice frappachino. Nope, not me! I cherish every single one of those calories I worked my butt to burn off and would never replace them with empty sugar and caffeine before the sweat has even dried! And while we are on the topic of things I don't eat, I should add I never finish the last couple chicken nuggets from Chickie's happy meal after she has finished. I am perfectly satisfied with my own overly indulgent portion and would never think of eating another nugget. And I never sit and read the previous few sentences and then wonder why my butt is growing up my back. Nope, not me!
I never let my child watch just one more show on PBS because I want to catch up on a few blogs or play on Facebook. Nope, I sit and play and read and color with my daughter all day long. I never use the TV for a moment of peace.
I never let my daughter win battles just because it is easier to not fight with an 18 month old on things such as wearing a bib or leaving the paci in her crib. Nope, I am modeling and instructing her in good behavior and etiquette always.
Alright, there you have it. Not very exciting, I know. And pretty much none of those are from the past week. Chickie has been sick, so she got to do whatever she wanted lest she get upset and start crying and thus start coughing and wheezing. And please, please - if anything is truly abhorrent behavior on my part as a mother, give me a heads up before calling DCFS!

Sick Chickie = Loooong Week
Chickie has been sick this past week. It started Tuesday night with a trip to the ER and the diagnosis of croup. They gave her a breathing treatment and oral steroids and told us if it started to get bad again to take her in a super steamy bathroom and then directly outside. Apparently this shocks the system and can settle down cough/bark. The only problem with that was 3 hours after we got home a water main burst outside our house and we were without water half the day Wednesday. Anyway, she was still barking Wednesday. Thursday I brought her in because the ped wanted to see if they wanted to do another breathing treatment. They decided they didn't and since she hasn't had a fever, they gave her a flu shot. She is still feeling a little punky. Most of the time she is fine, although her cough is now an equally alarming, though more normal sounding one, and her nose is constantly running..green! And every now and then her eyes get really glassy and teary. Having a sick child sucks! She isn't sleeping well. She really only wants to nap if I am laying down with her. One the one hand that is okay by me because I am getting a three hour nap a day, on the other hand, my house is a pig sty and I am getting nothing done! Not to mention, now that she is feeling a little better, Chickie is bored! We can only watch so much PBS. We can only color so much. We have read every book - twice! Yesterday we brought her outside to run around for about 20 minutes. We figured she wasn't getting better inside, maybe she needed some fresh air. I am not sure if it did anything for her recovery, but it did both her and my spirits a world of good!

I go back and forth between which is worse...being holed up or Lily being sick. I honestly think she likes being holed up less...she doesn't seem to remember she is sick. I certainly think her being sick is worse, but she might disagree. I am still undecided as to whether or not I am going to stock up on groceries, toilet paper, and books and hide out until cold and flu season is over. Of course, Chickie would probably revolt. I am not that fun of a mom. Hopefully this is the worst bug she catches or it is going to be a looooong cold/flu season!

Oh What A Night
No, not that song they always play at weddings. You know which one I'm talking about? I like that song. Anyway...Tuesday night. LONGEST.NIGHT.EVER!!
It started Tuesday afternoon with a cough. A cough that a little more worrisome than a normal little cough. I knew I was going to have to keep a close eye on it. Fast forward until about 10:30. Lily put up a fight going to bed and was very restless. She was coughing, and crying, and wheezy. Quite the combination. But she was also...barking? The cough was horrible and it was upsetting her, making her cry harder, making her wheeze and gasp for breath. We decided to take her to the ER. The minute I told the receptionist she had a strange cough, she looked at me and said "Croup." Two hours in the ER, oral steroids, a breathing treatment, some stickers, a new stuffed animal and apple juice for the first time ever, and we were on our way home. Lily was feeling better - apparently someone forgot to tell her you aren't supposed to like going to the ER - and we were all exhausted. We pulled in around 1 and decided Lily should sleep in bed with us so we could keep a close eye and ear on her. She fell right asleep, and Matt and I fell asleep probably around 1:30. The thing is, Lily likes to sleep on her belly and gets mad if she can't thrash and roll about. So about 2:30 I put her in her crib so we could all get some much needed rest. Around 4:30 I woke up to the most God awful racket. It was coming from our laundry closet. I had been doing laundry all day, but there wasn't anything running when I went to bed, so it couldn't be a severely unbalanced load. We hadn't turned the heat on yet, so it couldn't be the furnace (which shares the closet). I opened up the laundry closet to see the pipes that run into our house from outside banging and shaking. I wake Matt up and he is just as perplexed as I am. Not sure what to do, he calls the non-emergency police/water dept. As he is making the phone call, I notice the street out front is wet. I had just prior stepped out into the back to see if there was anything going on out there, so I knew it wasn't raining. Then I noticed the split in the street, where it is bulging and spewing water. Ah-ha! A water main break. The police and water department show up, we move our cars down the street, as do the neighbors. Our one neighbor doesn't heed the warning of the police officer NOT to drive over the bulging pavement, and sure enough his SUV takes a nose dive straight through the street. The water still hasn't been turned off, so now it is really pouring out. The water department guy puts a horse up to block off the hole. Because some other person may miss the SUV sticking out of the street and drive over it, I guess. They finally turn the water off and our pipes stop knocking and shaking. We watch the tow truck maneuver the SUV out of the hole. Not pretty for the car, let me tell ya! Thankfully Lily slept through all the racket and enjoyed the next day watching the city guys patch the pipe and street.

Dear Bloggy Friends
Dear Bloggy Friends,
My house is a mess. My kid is sick. I would love to fill you in on all the interesting things that have been going on (my sugar free week) and happening in our hood (the broken water main), but like I said, my house is a mess and my kid is sick. Once the Chickie is healthy and I am no longer afraid my house is going to be condemned, I will bring you up to speed. Until then, send healing thoughts and cleaning fairies my way!
Love,
A Going Crazy, Sleep Deprived Mommy
